A Home of My Own- 20 years later

In September of 1993 after many  years of Joann telling us she was not happy with her current supports and months of planning with her team, Joann moved to her own place with 10 hours of support per week. This past September 2013 she celebrated her 20^th year anniversary of living there and has continued to enjoy both her independence and freedom.

She has overcome some health challenges as she has aged, but she is still quite able to direct her Supports, her Support staff, and her Supports Coordinator.  She continues to travel to visit her parents in Florida once per year, host all her cousins at her “annual birthday bash”, call and visit family and friends as she chooses, and maintain a healthy lifestyle.  Her determination to stay healthy and maintain her own home is still as evident as it was twenty years ago.
