Growth Horizons, Inc. began as a not-for-profit corporation in 1979. Since that time, it has provided residential and habilitation services to hundreds of adults with intellectual disabilities. We are all very proud of the many years of quality service that Growth Horizons has provided to so many people. As founder and president, I am particularly proud of the hard work and dedication of our wonderful team who give their all every day of every year so that our clients can live a high quality life in the community. I look forward to many more years of the same and ever higher quality service.
During the past three years, Growth Horizons, like many other Pennsylvania agencies that provide residential and habilitation services to adults with intellectual disabilities, has incurred substantial financial losses. These losses threaten our ability to continue.
We are fortunate that Growth Horizons is associated with Salisbury House, Inc. Salisbury is a much larger organization that provides a wide variety of clinical and special education services to children and adults. Because of its size and diversification, Salisbury is a financially sound organization with many different sources of revenue. It does not have the financial difficulties that Growth Horizons has. In fact, it is financially strong.
As of June 1, 2014, Growth Horizons will become a subsidiary of Salisbury House. What will change at Growth Horizons? Nothing and everything will change! Nothing will change in the sense that the same great team, the same supervisors, and the same executive leadership, Joe MacDonald, CEO, and Beth Davidson, COO, will continue to do what they have been doing for years. You, the clients, staff members, families, and friends of Growth Horizons will not see any change at all. On the other hand, everything will change but only in the sense that the financial strength of Salisbury House will guarantee the financial viability of Growth Horizons.
Please understand that we are making this change very thoughtfully with the knowledge and support of the Office of the Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. We are fully committed to providing the very best services that can be provided. We are just as committed to making sure that these services continue without interruption for years to come.
