Growth Horizons joins The ARC Alliance in rally to address budget crisis…

On Saturday, May 12, 2012, approximately fifty consumers and staff from Growth Horizons participated in a rally to urge the Governor and Legislature to adequately fund programs for individuals with I/DD.

Consumers and staff from Pottstown, Lansdale, and Willow Grove programs were joined by about 250 other self- advocates in Doylestown, Bucks County to urge the restoration of cuts in funding for services. Mrs. Ginny Conway, the mother of Andy (Horsham), gave an eloquent talk on the struggles to get funding for services for her son. She was joined by numerous other family speakers and advocates who all urged the legislature to adequately fund community support. Sen. Bob Mensch, the father of Bill (Telford), talked about his struggles to get services and how he tries to educate legislators on the need for funding for I/DD services. All of the speakers made a point of acknowledging the dedication and hard work of the staff.  Many self-advocates, including Diane (Lansdale), Dennis (Willow Grove), and Phillip (Horsham), spoke out as well, urging legislators to stop the cuts.

What can you do? Contact your state legislator and urge them to restore funding cuts and to adequately fund community services for individuals with I/DD.
